Business Leaders' Breakfast - Addressing Domestic Violence and the Workplace

Did you know that domestic violence costs businesses an estimated $1.8 billion each year with costs exceeding $5.8 billion when directed medical and mental health services are included? To address the impact of domestic violence in the workplace, Between Friends held its first Business Leaders’ Breakfast at Loyola’s lakeshore campus on November, 15, 2007. Our keynote speaker was Derek Crawford of Kraft Foods Global Inc. who shared with business and community leaders how Kraft and Altria came to support the cause of domestic violence and initiated programs to address employees who were experiencing such abuse. The panel discussion featured leaders from the Association House, S & C Electric, and the Mayor’s Office on Domestic Violence who talked with business leaders about how they can recognize that their employees are experiencing domestic violence and what they can do to safeguard them.

Bernices Hayes, Coordinator, Association House; Leslie Landis, Director, Mayor’s Office on Domestic Violence; and Eileen Chandler, Manager of Health Services, S & C Electric (left to right) talk with business leaders about how they can recognize that their employees are experiencing domestic violence and what they can do to safeguard them.
